Even More News From Wellcat
Only One Left!
These four 'mouse' sized kittens were brought into Wellcat on 12
June. They were only 24 hours old. Sadly three have since died but
the one surviving kitten has been adopted by another cat with her own
litter - and now has a good chance of making it.
The kittens were
rescued by a passer-by in Small Heath Park who saw children poking
sticks at them. Their pitiful plight is the direct result of an
un-neutered or spayed cat. There is no reason at all for not having a
cat spayed. This reiterates the fact that it is important whatever
religious beliefs you may have to neuter and spay cats so this
problem does not keep reoccurring as it's totally unfair to them. We
must look after them in this world - not the next. Whatever your
religion or beliefs, please neuter your cats/kittens (and dogs and
puppies).
Give a Cat a Home
Birmingham charity Wellcat is desperate to find some loving homes for it's many abandoned moggies. Pauline Beasley, who runs the Quinton-based charity with the help of her husband David, looks after more than 100 abandoned felines, but not all can be rehoused. "What's making things particularly difficult at the moment is the number of wild cats appearing on the streets of Birmingham," she said. "People are not bothering to have their kittens neutered and they're dumping them after about six months when they get pregnant and have kittens. "If the kittens are not handled for the first few months we often can't rehouse them at all because they're not used to human contact. "The message is simple. If you can't afford to neuter a kitten then don't have one." By Staff Reporter, Evening Mail. Anyone who would like to adopt a cat should contact Pauline on 0121 426 5594 or log on to www.wellcat.org.uk.
Swimming with sharks
Well Done Sandra, you did brilliantly!! Sandra swam with live
sharks in aid of the Wellcat Cat Rescue & Re Homing Centre. She
was also heard on Radio WM. She swam with tiger (pictured),
lemon & nurse sharks for
30 minutes at the Blue Planet Aquarium, Cheshire Oaks, Ellesmere
Port, Cheshire, on Wednesday 26 May 2004. She retrieved a shark's
tooth from the bottom of the aquarium. If you would like to donate to
the final total please contact Sandra on 0121 601 5724 or 07985
755807. Your donation is really important to us and will help
Wellcat's funds. Please contact her by phone if you wish to pledge a
donation. See also the 'Ways to Help' page for information about Gift
Aid and the Inland Revenue. Many thanks to Mr Ron Burford for his
kind donation to this cause. Our continuing support is greatly
appreciated.
This is Soul (now called 'Shadow')
Soul was born blind in one eye and is also very weak. She still
has a long way to go but is responding well to treatment. It's not
yet known how well her other eye is doing. She has been nominated by
Sarah Rogers,
a
frequent visitor to Wellcat, as a new star of Wellcats' long term
residents now that Concorde has taken off. Shadow has now been
rehomed and lives with long term Wellcat supporter Linda and her
extended family of moggies.
There are no new mature cats available for the moment, although we have plenty of feral cats that need a good home.
